FAQ
Portugal not only has one of the best climates of all European countries, with more than 300 days of sunshine a year, but also an exceptional quality of life combined with a low cost of living, which makes it an increasingly popular place to buy a property. But let’s focus our attention on business:
Geostrategic position
- Privileged geographic location
- EU member – market of 500 million inhabitants
- Portuguese language spoken by more than 250 million people
- Historical and cultural relationship with developing countries – especially PALOPs
- 3rd largest Exclusive Economic Zone in the European Union and 11th largest in the world
Real estate market
Contributing to the dynamism of the real estate market in Portugal is the demand from non-resident buyers. According to the most recent data made available by INE, in 2019, non-residents bought 8.5% of all homes sold in Portugal, corresponding to 13.3% of the total value transacted.
Similar to what happened in the two previous years, residents in France were the ones who bought the most houses in the national territory, representing 27.7% of the total properties acquired by non-residents, followed by residents in the United Kingdom (13.4%). . Residents in these two countries also occupied the top two positions in terms of the total value of properties sold to non-residents.
Tax benefits, attractive low cost living, security, political stability, social peace, a mild climate and good cuisine are among the main reasons that lead non-residents to bet on the national real estate market.
